The Hotel as a Lighthouse for Sustainable Tourist Behaviour
Imagine you're on vacation, a time when you are open to new ideas and experiences. You enter your hotel room to find a green oasis: there's a green wall, all the materials - even the bed - are circular, the shower recycles water, you're informed of how much energy you are using, you're encouraged to bike or take transit, the air is cleaner thanks to the pollutant-absorbing paint and carpet. This room inspires you to act in a more sustainable way.
This living lab project will use a real hotel room, with real guests from all over the world to nudge pro-sustainable behaviour. Through this project, we aim to empower hotels around the world to become agents of sustainable change.
This project has received support through the Booking Cares Fund. More information can be found here.

We are searching for technology and innovations partners with solutions for the following:
- How can we create the most sustainable hotel room in the world? Think big sustainability improvements like energy and water savings, waste reductions, the use of circular materials, and more

What We Measure
As part of this living lab, we will measure the environmental, economic and social impacts of a range of technological and social sustainability innovations, such as:
- Environmental impacts of various interventions e.g., energy use, water use, air quality, waste, CO2 emissions
- Guest response and experience: willingness, behaviour, awareness, spillover behaviour in the city and at home
- The green business case(s) for the innovations tested and the room concept
